Art Class with Sharon Van Essen
Sharon Van Essen’s class is upcoming on January 21st from 1:00- 3:00 in the LMC. She will be bringing her Tripod palette and easel that has been constructed from a photography tripod with snap legs, and a palette box. Above is a picture that specifically indicates the hardware that is needed such as flattop 1/2 inch screws, washers and bolts. She finds that these units are very handy for indoor and outdoor use. The pictures show one that is an easel and the other one that holds a watercolorist’s or pencil sketcher’s palette box. If you have the supplies, Sharon will help you with construction, or you can learn how to do this and make one later on your own.
Some of you may want to just come and work on your own painting project. Remember a drop-in fee is $5.
We hope to see a few more of you there. Email Donna Tugwood if you are planning on coming at nannydonnatugwood@ gmail.com
Upcoming Art Classes
Hello Everyone!
We have a few classes upcoming to remind you about and hopefully to see more people register for. You can pay at the class, but let Donna know of your intention to take the class soon. Please register with Donna at <nannydonnatugwood@gmail.com> .
This Tuesday, January 14 6:30-9:30 Christel Langan instructs using acrylics for a Complementary Colour Underpainting of a Landscape scene. You will need red, blue, yellow, white and burnt umber, larger sized brushes and a small canvas 8X10 or 11X14 as well as all the normal equipment you use to paint in acrylics. A tabletop easel is optional as are other colours. This class has low enrolment at this time.
Saturday, January 18 9:30-3:30 Pen and Ink with Doug Strickland, a truly interesting person. Here is a link to a Youtube video regarding Doug’s work in making traditional native items.
January 21 1:00-3:00 Sharon Van Essen teaches us how to create an inexpensive and portable, free standing palette and easel using a photography tripod and other items. This class also has a low enrolment. If you have not registered but are interested in attending, please let Donna know.
A reminder that evening classes are $20; afternoon ones are $10 and the Saturday class is $40.
Well, a new batch of pictures is up at the LMC and they look great. In contributing fresh material 3-4 times a year, we are providing a great service to the community and the art scene. Thank you to those who brought their pictures, and to you who haven’t yet - no worries, your turn will come. In watching each artist’s style and technique develop, my thought is don’t stop, don’t give up or become discouraged. You may not paint like others, but that is what makes what you are creating special. No one else interprets a subject like you do!
Thank you,
Marlene Pavely
Club Meeting: January 15, 2014
Hello Everyone!
Several members met this Wednesday to make plans for the May 30-June 1 Central and South Zone Show that we will be hosting. Two years ago we held a successful Zone show, which was an interesting and fun event to be part of. Once again we are asking you to consider becoming involved. We have decided to adopt aHistorical/Agricultural theme, which will be expressed in various ways throughout the event. Several committees are being formed to look after different aspects of the weekend:
- Administration Committee - receives registrations and funds; coordinates the intake of pictures; oversees the event and staffing for it
- Facility Committee - looks after physical set-up, take-down;
- Social/Courtesy/Decorating Committee - coordinates food service, and decor; opening night
- Publicity Committee - advertises, invites, reports; works in conjunction with Secretarial Committee which is responsible for the physical production of promotional materials and catalogue.
- Hanging/Storing Committee - looks after hanging, storage and take-down of pictures
- People’s Choice/Sponsorship/ Silent Auction Committee - gains corporate sponsors; organizes the People’s choice award and assists with the Saturday Silent Auction.
- Spirit of Alberta Committee - works in late summer to set up the Spirit of Alberta Show, which Lacombe will have for the first time.
Additionally, we are very excited to present the Silent Auction. Read the promotional write-up below that is intended for our club, other clubs and unaffiliated artists in the central and south zones:
CALL TO ARTISTS:“Many of us have grown up in small communities or rural areas and hold warm, lifetime memories of past eras. Alberta’s roots are in agriculture. Whether farming, or building towns and cities, there is a rich store of visual material to feature in art from past times. ” Lacombe, the host venue, has drawn national acclaim for its historical buildings, streets and murals. The Lacombe Art Guild salutes history with the Alberta Community Art Clubs Associations tent (ACACA) 2014 Central/South Zone Show Zone Show."Artists from the Central/South regions will be asked to donate a painting in any medium, highlighting Agriculture and/or History of the area from which they come for a themed Silent Auction to be held on Opening Night, May 31st, 2014 in the Lacombe Memorial Centre. Extensive invitations will be sent to the public and local and regional special guests. We invite your artistic contributions to this salute to our agricultural and historical past. Please advise us if you are planning on participating.Thank you,The Lacombe Art Guild
